Good morning, I got two calls this morning before 7 am. When the phone rings I hold my breath and just stare at it for a second and pray. Will it be good news or bad news?
Call number one was the Surgical team telling me they had to charge me an additional $4000 due to the implant surgery. We were already at the $10,000 mark but there would be additional charges due to the complications of the surgery. Another $7000 will be taken for the ICU and the one on one care that Pip is getting while recovering. And there will probably be another $3000 for post op care not counting medications. That brings me to an estimated total of $20K before its all said and done.
Pip is Priceless. Money means nothing when you are dealing with this kind of crisis. It finally sinks in when the credit card company says you are over your limit and the others are almost full. I am applying for credit cards with 0% interest so I will at least be able to pay them off over the next year. I retired after Covid hit and lost most of my clients. I am part time now and bringing in very little. Thank God for Social Security or I would have nothing.
Call number 2 was from the ICU to let me know that Pip is doing okay considering what she has been through. She still will not eat so they are considering inserting a tube through her tiny little nose to get the nourishment she needs. She hasn't eaten since last Monday so they have to do something. They are thinking if we can come visit her today she might do better. So Randy will head over to take her my sweatshirt to sleep on, her baby that she loves, some of her favorite treats, and some "after surgery onezies" so she doesn't have to wear one of those big collars.
The ELEPHANT in the room: what to do about this Butcher Vet that did this to my baby. I have no room for hate right now... what is done is done and my heart won't allow me to focus on hate and vindictiveness. I will be calm and rational and go into full swing with shutting him down so he can never hurt another animal. I will do that through the American Veterinary Association.
As far as bringing legal action... In my state of Maryland, pets are considered property. That means you can only sue for what money has been spent on making them well again. You can't sue a Vet for your own stress and emotional destruction. And that is fine with me. I want to get my $20+ money returned and his license revoked. I want my baby girl back in my arms as fast as possible.
Will he worry? Not at all. He has Malpractice insurance and he will submit the claim to his insurance and they will pay me once the case is proven. He will walk away with no personal financial obligation. But maybe they also will recommend his resignation or cancel his insurance which he will not be able to practice without.
That is where we are. This has not been a pleasant journey ...it has been an absolute NIGHTMARE and Pip and I have paid the price. If you can find it in your heart to help me pay this debt I would be so grateful. I started a new fund raiser today with "KINDBEE". I will also start a new GoFundMe account just for Pip.
